Bihar: CBI team probing UGC-NET paper leak case gheraoed by locals in Nawada

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team, which went to Bihar to investigate the alleged paper leak of UGC's National Eligibility Test, was gheraoed by locals in Bihar's Nawada on Saturday.

Nawada (Bihar) [India], June 24 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team, which went to Bihar to investigate the alleged paper leak of UGC's National Eligibility Test, was gheraoed by locals in Bihar's Nawada on Saturday.
According to the Nawada SP Ambrish Rahul, upon receiving news of the incident, officers from Rajauli police station rushed to the scene and successfully brought the CBI team to the station.
"On Saturday, the CBI team was in Nawada. They were investigating the UGC-NET case. They then went to Rajauli area...This raid was kept as a secret and Rajauli Police was not informed about it. When they started raiding, the people of that area started questioning them. Rajauli Police was then informed, we sent a team and the CBI team was brought to the station," Nawada SP said.
Nawada SP said that the CBI officials sustained minor injuries as the people surrounded their cars.
"The CBI team has not arrested anyone. No one (CBI official) has sustained major injuries but some minor injuries as the people surrounded their car," he said.
An FIR has been filed regarding the incident and no arrests have been made yet.
"We have registered a case and an investigation is going on," the SP added.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday registered a case against unknown persons for compromising the integrity of the UGC NET exam conducted on June 18.
The CBI informed that the case has been registered under IPC Section 120B and 420 IPC on the basis of a complaint received from the Secretary of the Department of Education.
It has been alleged in the complaint that the University Grants Commission (UGC) received inputs on 19.06.2024 from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analysis Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Co-ordination Centre (I4C) under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs that the integrity of UGC Net -2024 Examination, conducted by National Testing Agency(NTA) on June 18 in two shifts across different cities in the country, may have been compromised.
The Ministry of Education on Wednesday cancelled the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on June 18 in two shifts across different cities of the country, according to an official press release issued by the Ministery of Education.
The UGC-NET exam was conducted on June 18. The exam was attended by 81 per cent of over 11.21 lakh registered candidates for the exam in 317 cities across the country, said UGC chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar.
UGC-NET is a test to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for 'Assistant Professor' as well as 'Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor' in Indian universities and colleges. The UGC-NET is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. (ANI)
