Bhushan Steel PMLA case: Court grants bail to former CFO Nittin Johri on health grounds

Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court has granted bail to Nittin Johri, an accused in Bhushan Steel Money Laundering case, on health grounds, observing that he falls in the category of sick and infirm persons.

New Delhi [India], July 13 (ANI): Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court has granted bail to Nittin Johri, an accused in Bhushan Steel Money Laundering case, on health grounds, observing that he falls in the category of sick and infirm persons.
Special Judge Jagdish Kumar granted bail to Johri after considering the medical records and submissions made by the counsel.
Johri, former CFO of Bhushan Steel Limited, has been directed to furnish a bail bond of Rs one Lakh with one surety of like amount.
The court directed him to surrender his passport to this Court. The court also said that he will not leave the country without prior permission of the court.
The court said that accused shall make himself available as and when called by the investigation officer for further investigation, if so required.
Senior advocate Pramod Kumar Dubey and advocate Gautam Khazanchi appeared for Johri. He sought bail on ground of sickness and infirmity and apprised the court that his health is deteriorating in jail.
The court noted that the applicant also has other comorbidities as reveals from reports of AIIMS including sugar and increased Creatinine. The fact is also not denied that applicant has a genetic history of cancer and kidney failure, with both his parents died due to cancer and his father remained on dialysis for 08 years.
"While the facts reveal that when the applicant suffered from adenoma (occurrence of cancer) in January 2023, tests were conducted within a short span of time and he was operated within a period of 17 days. The circumstances for the applicant may need speedy treatment, if situation arose in the given health condition of applicant," the court said in the order passed on July 12.
The court noted that the investigation in the present case has already been completed. There are no allegations that the applicant has not co-operated in the investigation. (ANI)
