Pratapgarh (Rajasthan) [India], September 2 (ANI): After holding a discussion with the district administration and police officials, the Congress MLA from the Dhariyawad Assembly constituency in the Pratapgarh district Nagraj Meena on Saturday said that the Police will take immediate action on the incident of a woman being allegedly beaten and paraded naked by her husband and in-laws in the district.
The MLA said that the cruelty of the incident is such that it is beyond condemnation.
"I came to know about this incident at around 9 p.m. I held a discussion with the District Collector and the District Superintendent of Police...The incident cannot be condemned enough. Such incidents should not happen. Police will take immediate action on this," Nagraj Meena said.
According to Director General of Police (DGP) Umesh Mishra, the incident, in connection with which three people were held by the police, took place on Thursday in the district's Nichalkota village of Pahada Gram Panchayat under Dhariyavad police station limits.
The victim was married a year ago. It is alleged that she had started living with another man in the village.
According to Pratapgarh DGP, Umesh Mishra, The in-laws of the woman committed this heinous crime. They kidnapped her and took her to their village where the incident took place. They were annoyed as she had gone away somewhere else after the marriage.
"The matter came to the notice of the police on Friday evening after a video of the incident surfaced online. Shortly after, the district Superintendant of Police, the Inspector-General of Police and the SHO of the police station concerned along with other police personnel immediately reached the village," DGP told ANI.
There are a total of ten accused in the case, out of whom, three have been arrested. The accused were identified as Nathu Meena (the victim's husband), Velia Veena and Kanha Meena. On seeing the police, they tried to run away and got injured while escaping. At present, they are undergoing treatment at Pratapgarh district hospital. They will soon be produced before the court.
The Ashok Gehlot led government has come in for severe criticism for the incident. Former CM and BJP leader Vasundhara Raje said in a post on X " The crimes against women in the state have increase to such an extent that every other day Rajasthan has been shamed. The responsibility of making the state number one for crimes against women falls solely on the head of the Congress government. Why is the Chief Minister so helpless that his government can't hear the cries of these women? (ANI)
