Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], September 6 (ANI): The Special Central Bureau Investigation Court of Asansol on Wednesday approved the Enforcement Directorate's request to transfer the alleged multi-crore cattle smuggling case to the Rose Revenue Court in New Delhi.
Justice Rajesh Chakraborty passed an order in this regard, which stated that on the basis of the gazette notification of 2005, the matter was being referred to the PMLA court at Rouse Revenue, Delhi.
Later, the ED's lawyer, Abhijeet Bhadra, briefed reporters, "Today, I handed over the gazette notification of 2005 to the court. It stated that all powers in the Prevention of Money Laundering Act are being given to the ED."
Earlier, on August 19 and September 2, the case was heard in the court of special CBI judge, Justice Rajesh Chakraborty, in Asansol.
On July 28, the ED filed a request under Section 44(1/c) to transfer the case to the CBI special court in Asansol.
The president of the ruling Trinamool Congress in Birbhum district, who is said to be a close aide of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Anubrata Mondal was arrested by the CBI in connection with the case in July last year.
He was arrested by ED after being questioned inside the Asansol jail where he was lodged at the time.
Anubrata, his daughter Sukanya, former bodyguards Sehgal, and Enamul Haque and BSF commandant Satish Kumar, who were arrested by the CBI and ED in connection with the case, are lodged currently in Delhi's Tihar Jail.
The TMC's Birbhum chief was arrested by ED on April 26.  (ANI)

TMC's jibe at Centre amid LPG crisis due to West Asia conflict

In an 'X' post, TMC said the government has "ek hi naara, line mein rahe desh bechara," pointing to past governmental measures including demonetisation, the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, the Special Identification Registration (SIR), and now the LPG shortage. The party described demonetisation as a "Tughlaqi farman" that forced ordinary citizens to wait in serpentine queues outside banks and ATMs for days to access their own money.
