"Attack on daughters means end of life": Gujarat Dy CM Harsh Sanghavi welcomes court's verdict awarding death penalty in Rajkot POCSO case

Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Saturday welcomed the Rajkot Special Court's verdict awarding the death penalty to a man convicted of raping, stating, "any attack on daughters means the end of life."

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], January 17 (ANI): Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Saturday welcomed the Rajkot Special Court's verdict awarding the death penalty to a man convicted of raping, stating, "any attack on daughters means the end of life."
The Rajkot court delivered the verdict within 40 days of the incident, pronouncing capital punishment in the POCSO case.
Speaking to reporters in Ahmedabad, Harsh Sanghavi expressed gratitude towards the Rajkot Police, the lawyer, and the judicial system.
He said, "The Gujarat government's clear resolve and clear message: any attack on daughters means the end of life. The Gujarat government has succeeded in securing punishment for the culprit within just 40 days by registering a POCSO case in the rape incident that occurred in Atkot, Rajkot, involving a 6-year-old girl."
"I am deeply grateful to the Rajkot district police, the government lawyer, and the judicial system. Today, there must be peace in the hearts of those lakhs of mothers and sisters in Rajkot who had prayed that the 6-year-old daughter, her family, and all sisters of the state receive justice," the Deputy CM added.
Earlier in an X post, Harsh Sanghavi claimed "zero tolerance" for crimes against women and children.
He wrote, "Clear message from the Gujarat Government: An attack on our daughters means the end of your life. As Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister, I state this clearly: Gujarat has zero tolerance for crimes against women and children. In the Atkot POCSO case, justice is delivered within just 40 days from FIR to conviction. This shows that in Gujarat, criminals will not escape by delaying the law. My heartfelt congratulations to the Rajkot Rural Police, the prosecutors, and the entire justice system for their swift and strong action. Gujarat stands firmly with every daughter."

The charge sheet in the case was filed within 11 days, and after a day-to-day trial, justice was delivered on the 33rd day. (ANI)
