Assam STF seizes 58.5 grams of heroin in Guwahati, 1 held

The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police on Wednesday apprehended a drug peddler after 31 numbers of plastic vials and 2 numbers of Tobacco boxes containing suspected Heroin weighing 58.5 grams was recovered from his possession at Basistha area of Guwahati.

Guwahati (Assam) [India], October 11 (ANI): The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police on Wednesday apprehended a drug peddler after 31 numbers of plastic vials and 2 numbers of Tobacco boxes containing suspected Heroin weighing 58.5 grams was recovered from his possession at Basistha area of Guwahati, officials said.
The 34 year old drug peddler was identified Ananiash Basumatary alias Mithinga.
While speaking to ANI, Partha Sarathi Mahanta, DIG (STF) said that the drug peddler cum veteran thief Ananiash Basumatary alias Mithinga hailing from Darkuchi Bazar area of Baksa district was staying at Veterinary Segun Bagan, Missing- Basti. He was apprehended along with 31 numbers of plastic vials and 2 numbers of Tobacco boxes containing suspected Heroin weighing 58.5 grams at Jail-Road, Surjyadoy Nagar under Basistha police jurisdiction.
"The STF (Special Task Force) team also recovered 31 numbers of empty vials, 2 numbers of mobile phones, cash of Rs 3,990 in possession from him. Necessary formalities are being done. FIR is being lodged at Basistha police station," Partha Sarathi Mahanta said.
Just a week ago, contraband drugs worth Rs 2 crore was seized by the Assam STF in Kamrup district, and five people were arrested in connection to the same.
Earlier in August, in a joint operation, Special Task Force (STF) Assam Police and Tinsukia district police recovered 700 gram of heroin packed in 57 soap cases, concealed in secret cabins of the vehicles. (ANI)
