Aizawal (Mizoram) [India], November (11): Assam Rifles, in collaboration with local enforcement agencies, recovered over 2 kilograms of Methamphetamine worth Rs 7.19 crores in a series of anti-smuggling operations in Mizoram, authorities said on Monday.
A statement from the HQ IGAR East said, "On 11 November, acting on precise intelligence, Assam Rifles and Police Department, Zokhawthar intercepted a white vehicle suspected of cross-border smuggling along the Zokhawthar-Melbuk Road in Champhai District. During the operation, the occupants attempted to evade capture, abandoning a blue bag before fleeing the scene. Upon search, the team recovered 2.399 kg of Methamphetamine, valued at Rs 7.197 crore. The seized drugs, along with the vehicle and other recovered items, were handed over to the Police Department, Zokhawthar, for further investigation," it added.
In a separate operation conducted on 10 November, Assam Rifles, alongwith Land Customs Station, Zokhawthar, seized 339 foreign-origin e-cigarettes valued at Rs 8.59 lakh in the general area of Zokhawthar, Champhai District. The e-cigarettes, believed to be smuggled into India, were abandoned in the area and subsequently confiscated. The seized items were handed over to the Land Customs Station, Zokhawthar, for further action, read the statement.
These successful operations underscore the commitment of Assam Rifles to counter the persistent threat of cross-border smuggling in Mizoram, a state vulnerable to illicit trafficking networks.
