Assam governor summons autumn session of state assembly on Aug 22

As per the order dated July 18, Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria summoned the Autumn Session of Assam Legislative Assembly to meet on August 22, 2024.

Dispur (Assam) [India], July 19 (ANI): The autumn session of the Assam state assembly is set to commence on August 22, according to an order issued by the Governor of Assam.
As per the order dated July 18, Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria summoned the Autumn Session of Assam Legislative Assembly to meet on August 22, 2024.
"In exercise of the powers conferred under Article 174(1) of the Constitution of India, as amended up-to-date, I Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Assam, hereby summon the Autumn Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly to meet at 9.30 am on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at the Assembly Chamber in Dispur," the order of the Assam Legislative Assembly Secretariat stated.
Last year, the autumn session of the Assam Legislative Assembly was held from September 12 to 19, 2023.
Six bills aiming to establish multiple new universities in the state that will also make key changes to seven of the existing universities in the state were introduced during the 2023 autumn session.
During the session in 2023, the assembly also passed the long-awaited Assam Panchayat (Amendment) Bill, 2023 by voice vote.
The other bills presented during the session included the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (Amendment) Bill 2023, the Assam Public Safety (Measures) Enforcement (Amendment) Bill 2023 and the Assam Gratuity (Amendment) Bill 2023.
The Assam Tea Plantation Provident Fund and Pension Fund and Deposit Linked Insurance Fund Scheme (Amendment) Bill 2023, and the Assam Backward Classes Commission (Amendment) Bill 2023 were also presented.
The Assam Legislative Assembly convened its budget session earlier in February this year.
Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog presented the annual state budget for the financial year 2024-25, worth Rs 2.9 lakh crore, on February 12, 2024. (ANI)
