Assam CM discusses increase in power demand in state with Union Power Minister RK Singh in Delhi

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called on Union Power Minister, RK Singh at his official residence in New Delhi on Saturday and discussed the increase in power demand in the northeastern state.

New Delhi [India], September 9 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday called on Union Power Minister, RK Singh at his official residence in New Delhi and discussed the increase in power demand in the northeastern state.
The Chief Minister briefed the Power Minister about the unprecedented 26 per cent increase in power demand due to the growth of productive sectors of the economy.
Power Minister RK Singh has assured that he would consider the personal request of the Chief Minister to allocate at least 300MW of power to Assam to tide over the current power deficit.
Later, taking to X, the Chief Minister said, "Had an excellent discussion with Hon’ble Union Power Minister Shri RK Singh ji. I briefed him on the unprecedented 26 per cent increase in power demand due to the growth of productive sectors of the economy. He has assured to kindly consider my personal request to allocate at least 300 MW of power to Assam, which will aid in tiding over the current power deficit."
Earlier, Assam CM Sarma on Monday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the national capital and pleaded for the complete withdrawal of the AFSPA from the state.
In the course of the meeting that lasted for 30 minutes, Chief Minister Sarma and Union Home Minister Shah discussed threadbare the roadmap for the complete withdrawal of AFSPA from Assam, as per the Assam government release.
The AFSPA was first imposed in Assam in November 1990 and has been extended every six months since then after a review by the state government. (ANI)
