Assam anti-corruption body arrests three persons, including two govt officials for taking bribe

The arrested government officials were identified as Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer Dipankar Kalita, Executive Magistrate of office of the District Commissioner of Kamrup district, Assistant Sub Inspector Mukut Ali who is the In-charge of Jambari Outpost under Boko Police Station in Kamrup district and middleman Phanindra Das.

Guwahati (Assam) [India], October 16 (ANI): Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in Assam caught red-handed and arrested three persons including two government officials and a middleman in two separate operations while they were accepting bribes.
The arrested government officials were identified as Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer Dipankar Kalita, Executive Magistrate of the office of the District Commissioner of Kamrup district, Assistant Sub-Inspector Mukut Ali who is the In-charge of Jambari Outpost under Boko Police Station in Kamrup district and middleman Phanindra Das.
According to the Assam police, a complaint was received at the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, alleging that Dipankar Kalita, ACS, Executive Magistrate of office of the District Commissioner, district- Kamrup, had demanded Rs 3,000 as bribe from the complainant for processing his land demarcation matter.

"Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Directorate for taking necessary legal action against the public servant. Accordingly, a trap was laid today by a team from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, in the office of the District Commissioner, Kamrup district. Dipankar Kalita, ACS was caught red handed, immediately after he accepted Rs 3,000 as demanded bribe from the complainant," Joint Director of Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) Assam Rajib Saikia said in a press statement.
"The tainted bribe money has been recovered from his possession and has been seized accordingly, in presence of independent witnesses. Finding sufficient evidence against the accused public servant, he has been arrested by the team of the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam," he added.
In a separate operation, the team of Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam caught red handed and arrested two persons including a police officer while accepting bribe in Kamrup district.
Rajib Saikia, Joint Director of DIPR said that a complaint was received at the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in Assam, alleging that Assistant Sub Inspector Mukut Ali, In-charge of Jambari Outpost under Boko Police Station of Kamrup district, demanded Rs 6,000 as bribe from the complainant for sending case diary to concerned Court in connection with a case against her husband.

"Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Directorate for taking necessary legal action against the public servant. Accordingly, a trap was laid today by a team from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, in Boko police station of Kamrup district," Rajib Saikia said.
Phanindra Das, a middleman working as a Tea Stall owner was caught red handed, immediately after he accepted Rs 3,000 as part of the demanded bribe in conspiracy with ASI Mukut Ali. The tainted bribe money has been recovered from his possession and has been seized accordingly, in presence of independent witnesses.
ASI Mukut Ali was also apprehended for demanding bribe from the complainant and accepting it through a middleman, in conspiracy with him. Finding sufficient evidence against the accused persons, they have been arrested by the team of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam.
Two seperate cases were registered in the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) Police Station on October 16 under section 7(a) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, Saikia said. (ANI)
