Guwahati (Assam) [India], October 14 (ANI): Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the north-east, sounded its poll bugle from Assam's Golaghat district on Saturday ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
AGP celebrated its 39th foundation day in Golaghat on Saturday. Party president and Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, working president and Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta and other senior leaders participated in the event.
Speaking to ANI, AGP president Atul Bora said that his party has made all preparations for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
"We are fully prepared for the poll. We are the part of BJP-led NDA. We are gearing up for the Lok Sabha elections. We are very confident that we will be able to send our party representatives to the Lok Sabha this time. We are yet to discuss seat sharing with the BJP," Atul Bora said.
Bora further added that thousands of people and party workers have participated in the Foundation Day event.
He also said that his party is happy to work and be a part of the BJP-led Assam government under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The AGP president attacked the Congress party for patronising small political parties in Assam.
"Some small political parties have formed in Assam in recent times and the Congress has patronized it. But it will not have an impact on the AGP," he said.
Bora said that the AGP, though being a regional political party has national aspirations and the people of Assam is their strength.
"AGP is a regional political party, but we have a national outlook. We are now focusing on Lok Sabha, Panchayat and Assembly polls. Our strength is the people of Assam. The people of Assam will not support these newly floated small political parties," Atul Bora said.
Bora also added that his party is focused on the all-round development of Assam and is working under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
"AGP is the lifeline of regional politics in Assam. We are trying to do all-round development for Assam under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. In the last two years, we have distributed 1.70 lakh agricultural machinery to the farmers of the state," Bora said.
Earlier in the day, a cultural rally was held in Golaghat in the presence of Atul Bora and other senior leaders of the AGP. They also hoisted 39 party flags on the occasion of its 39th Foundation Day. The AGP president also participated in the Jhumur dance along with the tea tribes' dancers.(ANI)
