Arvind Subramanian praises Telangana's land record programme

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], Feb 20 (ANI): Chief Economic Adviser to the Central Government, Arvind Subramanian has praised Telangana's land record programme.

He described the Lands Records Updation Programme of Telangana as the 'Heart of Good Governance'.

Subramanian expressed these views during a luncheon meeting with Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) in Hyderabad.

He also suggested that Lands Records Updation Programme should be studied as a case study by the world-famous Harvard University.

The Chief Economic Adviser opined that the successful implementation of the programme should become a learning point for other states, as well as to the whole country.

He also suggested that the cheque distribution programme towards investment support scheme for agriculture, which would be formally launched on April 20, should be made as a nation-wide event and he would be honoured to be present on that day.

In the meeting, Chief Minister KCR briefed Subramanian about Kaleshwaram irrigation lift project, and its components including reservoirs, barrages and pump houses.

The Chief Minister informed the Chief Economic Adviser that nearly 2,600 workers were working round-the-clock in three shifts to complete the project as per schedule.

Rao told Subramanian that the previous governments had never bothered about agriculture and allied sectors like sheep rearing, poultry, fishery etcetera.

The Chief Minister also mentioned that the biggest problem of farmers is to be in the unorganised format.

"This problem has now been overcome with the formation of Farmer Coordination Committees, which will be functional and active," said the Chief Minister.

Referring to crop colonies concept, the Chief Minister further said that the country needs to be split into crop colonies based on agro-climatic conditions at different places and pointed out that Telangana was already implementing this idea.

On the FISS programme, Rao said it was designed to get the farming community out of distress.

The Chief Minister said there was a need to release Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) funds collected from the States by the Centre back to them.

Finance Minister Etela Rajender, Chief Adviser to Government Rajiv Sharma, Adviser GR Reddy, Chief Secretary SK Joshi, DGP Mahender Reddy, MP Balka Suman, MLC and Whip Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, CMO Principal Secretaries S. Narsing Rao and Shanti Kumari, Principal Secretary Finance Ramakrishna Rao and others were present in the meeting. (ANI)
