New Delhi [India], March 22 (ANI): Terming Arvind Kejriwal's arrest "unethical and wrong," Congress leader Sachin Pilot said on Friday that he had never seen such an action against the elected Chief Minister.
The Enforcement Directorate has arrested Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal in connection with the Delhi excise policy case on Thursday night, in which two senior AAP leaders are already in judicial custody. The case pertains to alleged irregularities and money laundering in framing and implementing the Delhi excise policy of 2022, which was later scrapped.
"I have never seen such an action on an elected CM. When the Model Code of Conduct is implemented in the country, going to arrest a CM at night, has been opposed by all. This is very unethical and wrong. The Election Commission should intervene in this matter."
"We are establishing the wrong party (BJP) in the country's democracy," Polot added.
Earlier, several leaders, including Delhi Ministers Saurabh Bharadwaj and Atishi, were detained by the Delhi police during the AAP protest against the arrest of the CM.
Meanwhile Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi alleged that the police did not allow party leaders to meet the family of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the alleged excise policy scam.
Oberoi alleged that the party leaders who marched towards the residence of Delhi CM Kejriwal in the Civil Lines area were stopped and denied meeting Kejriwal's family.
"We have come to meet Arvind Kejriwal's family but police and administration are not allowing us to go inside. Democracy can't be murdered like this and we can't be stopped from raising our voices. The people of Delhi are with Arvind Kejriwal," Oberoi told ANI.
Also, AAP leader and Rajya Sabha member Raghav Chadha has criticised the arrest of AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal saying that the person who gave free electricity to lakhs of families and arranged free bus services for women has been arrested.
The AAP leader claimed that the blessings and love of 135 crore Indians are with Arvind Kejriwal, who, as per the Chadha, "was arrested under a conspiracy." (ANI)
