Arunachal Pradesh flood: Assam Rifles launches Operation Saviour to rescue stranded civilians in flood-affected villages

According to the Assam Rifles, close to 500 civilians have been rescued by the troops from far-flung villages in the areas of Vijoypur, Dharampur, Mudoi, Shrishtipur, Hanthi Mara Beel and Chowkham.

Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) [India], July 1 (ANI): Amid a flood-like situation in Arunachal Pradesh, the Assam Rifles has launched Operation Saviour to rescue stranded civilians in flood-affected villages of the state.
According to the Assam Rifles, close to 500 civilians have been rescued by the troops from far-flung villages in the areas of Vijoypur, Dharampur, Mudoi, Shrishtipur, Hanthi Mara Beel and Chowkham.

"With unprecedented rainfall lashing Namsai and Changlang districts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam Rifles launched Operation Saviour to rescue stranded civilians and provide relief to the flood-devastated villages. Close to 500 civilians have been rescued by the troops of Assam Rifles by working ceaselessly & reaching out to the far-flung villages in the Areas of Vijoypur, Dharampur, Mudoi, Shrishtipur, Hanthi Mara Beel & Chowkham," as per a press release from the Pro Defence Guwahati.

Meanwhile, Assam Rifles has also set up temporary camps and coordinated with the civil administration to provide emergency rations, food, and medicine while increasing personnel and resources for faster rescue efforts.

"Assam Rifles established temporary camps/ shelters & coordinated closely with the civil administration to provide emergency rations, food & medicines. Assam Rifles is committing more personnel & resources to speed up its rescue efforts," as per the release.

As per the IMD, extremely heavy rainfall is expected for the next 2 days in Arunachal Pradesh.
IMD scientist, Dr Naresh Kumar told ANI, "At present, monsoon is in active phase. For the Northeastern states, we are expecting extremely heavy rainfall for the next 2 days, especially in Arunachal Pradesh. We have given red alerts for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim for today and for 2 days for Arunachal Pradesh...We have progressed monsoon over most parts of West Rajasthan, Haryana, the entire Uttar Pradesh and the remaining part of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu Kashmir. In the coming days, conditions will be favourable for further advance. We may expect monsoons over the remaining part of the country during the next 2-3 days." (ANI)
