Army officer, wife arrested in Assam for allegedly torturing domestic help

An army officer and his wife have been arrested by the police in Assam's Dima Hasao district for allegedly torturing their domestic help, police said on Wednesday.

Guwahati (Assam) [India], September 27 (ANI): An army officer and his wife have been arrested by the police in Assam's Dima Hasao district for allegedly torturing their domestic help, police said on Wednesday. 
According to the police, the couple had taken the victim, who is a minor, to the Palampur district of Himachal Pradesh from Assam's Dima Hasao as a domestic help two years back. 
"On September 24, we received information through social media that a minor girl of Haflong in Dima Hasao district, who was taken to Palampur of Himachal Pradesh as house help was tortured brutally by the couple who took her two years back", said Mayank Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Dima Hasao
Accordingly, a case was registered at the Haflong police station under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), the SP added. 
SP Kumar further said that during the investigation of the case, prima facie evidence was found against the couple. 
"During the investigation of the case, prima facie evidence was found against the couple and we arrested the army Major and his wife on September 25. They were forwarded to judicial custody. Necessary assistance has been provided to the victim including medical treatment", SP Mayank Kumar said. 
A probe is underway. Further details are awaited. (ANI)
