BJP leader Lanka Dinakaran speaking to ANI in Hyderabad on Sunday

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], Nov 11 (ANI): BJP leader Lanka Dinakaran termed the Andhra Pradesh government's decision to convert all government schools into English medium as 'unfortunate' and against the Telugu language.
"Unfortunately, the government of Andhra Pradesh led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has decided to remove Telugu medium schools. They will convert all Telugu medium schools into English medium schools. This decision is unfortunate," said Dinakaran.
"It is baseless and unless decision. Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has decided to keep Telugu as only one subject while English as a compulsory subject. It is like destroying the schools of mother language. Even in non-Telugu speaking states, having sizeable Telugu speaking population there are Telugu schools like in Delhi, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka etc," he said.
On November 8, slamming Opposition parties' criticism of the state government's decision to convert all government schools into English medium, education minister Adimulapu Suresh termed the move 'historic'.
Addressing a press conference in Amaravati, Suresh said, "Opposition parties are making an unnecessary issue over this. It is a historic decision taken by our chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy."
"English is mandatory for jobs and therefore there is a need for inculcating English language skills among students. The English language will be introduced in a phased manner and special training will be provided for class 8 students," he had said.
Suresh further asserted that English medium was not accessible to weaker sections of the society.
The minister also informed that the teachers will be trained during summer holidays so that they do not face issues in teaching in English medium. (ANI)
