AP Govt. warns stern action against colleges for flouting rules

Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh) [India], Nov. 29 (ANI): Expressing concern over recent incidents of students' suicides in the educational premises, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday warned management of the colleges of stern action, if rules and regulations are not followed as per set standards.

While addressing the state legislative assembly, Naidu noted that students are unable to accept pressure, depression and defeat, as a result they opt to end their lives.

The chief minister said long hectic study hours, no curriculum activity are making 'students a machine' and added that the college management put extra pressure on them in the name of weekly tests and grades.

Further stressing on the issue, Naidu said students are cutting off from ground realty for the sake of system.

Citing example for western countries, the chief minister said is it important for students to get involved in more social activities to enrich their approach.

In view of these issues, the Andhra Government has also interlinked students with open defecation free (ODF) as part of Swachh Bharat mission.

Students will also be provided counseling so that their innovative skill develops.

Last month, the Andhra Pradesh Government rebuked corporate colleges over increasing suicides of students, and ordered private colleges to stop harassing students and to follow self regulation.

In the wake of seven students' suicide and one suicide attempt in the first week of October, Naidu and HRD minister Ganta Srinivas Rao held a closed-door meeting with the managements of corporate colleges in the state. (ANI)
