AP CM reviews progress in power sector in state

Amravati (Andhra Pradesh) [India], Sept 13 (ANI): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday conducted a review meeting with officials of power sector of the state to discuss the developments and progress in the sector.

AP CM reviews progress in power sector in state

Amravati (Andhra Pradesh) [India], Sept 13 (ANI): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday conducted a review meeting with officials of power sector of the state to discuss the developments and progress in the sector.

During the meeting, the officials informed Naidu that power production has increased by of 7.3 percent during the period of April to August 2017 in comparison to last year.

It was also brought to notice that demand for power has increased by 0.4 percent for the same period.

The Chief Minister was also informed that, as many as 2.16 crores of LED bulbs, 2.55 lakhs of power saving fans, 17,779 power saving tube lights have been distributed.

It was also brought to notice that 15,000 solar pump sets were step up, highest number in the country. And that 5.9 lakhs of LED street lights were set up in 110 urban areas.

The Chief Minister was further told that arrangements for setting up 40 lakhs LED street lights in rural areas are underway.

It was highlighted that Andhra Pradesh has won 26 awards in power sector from 2015-16 to 2016-17.

Moving ahead, it was told that there is tremendous growth in solar and wind power sectors in the state.

Solar power production this year increased by 183 and wind power sector recorded 154 percent growth as compared to last year.

In the meeting, Naidu suggested to provide services in power sector through outsourcing and asserted that sub stations and other infrastructure be provided on demand supply basis.

Naidu also instructed to take measures to minimize power consumption in all sectors including aqua sector, while asking to gradually reduce production and purchase of thermal power and increase the production of renewable power. (ANI)
