Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh) [India], July 5 (ANI): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated three lakh houses on Thursday. These houses are part of a state government housing scheme which was completed recently.
Housewarming celebrations of the houses were held at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium in Vijayawada.
The Andhra Pradesh Housing Corporation had completed one lakh houses by October 2, 2017. It completed three lakh more houses this year. The state government aims to complete a total of 10 lakh houses by January 2019.
According to the government, it is a world record that three lakh houses are given to poor and needy on a single day. The Chief Minister asked officials to see whether this can be marked in the Guinness book of World Records.
He said, "Previous government had looted Rs 4150 crores in the name of constructing 14.40 lakh houses. After our government came to power, I ordered for an inquiry. Our government estimated that more than13 lakhs houses are to be constructed. We started working on a war footing."
The Andhra Pradesh Housing Corporation is celebrating its 40th anniversary today. The corporation has built 65 lakhs houses in 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh.
"Own house is everybody's dream. I took the responsibility and am fulfilling it. On October 2, 2017 we inaugurated one lakh houses. It was a record. Now we ourselves broke that record. I checked how the houses are built. Their quality is very good. All facilities are provided. Inauguration of three lakhs houses at a time is a history. Nowhere in the world, such a record is possible. I am very proud to make so many houses available to the poor. " Naidu added.
Taking a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Naidu said that the Prime Minister promised construction of one crore houses, but could not complete 35 lakh houses.
The Chief Minister also said, "Water facility, toilets, roads, drainages are must - we are providing all that basic infrastructure."
Claiming that the Andhra Pradesh Government was betrayed by the Centre, he said, "Even yesterday the Centre lied in its affidavit to the Supreme Court. It says AP does not need special status. The affidavit is full of lies. That's why we are fighting with the Centre."
"The Centre will be much happier if we fight among ourselves. They don't want Andhra Pradesh to develop," he added. (ANI)
