Anti-Narcotics Task Force and Punjab police arrest top smuggler Avtar Singh in Gurdaspur

Anti-Narcotics Task Force along with Gurdaspur police made preventive detention under the PITS-NDPS Act of top smuggler Avtar Singh alias Tari from the border district of Punjab's Gurdaspur, said officials.

Gurdaspur (Punjab) [India], October 25 (ANI): Punjab Police Anti-Narcotics Task Force along with Gurdaspur police made preventive detention under the PITS-NDPS Act of top smuggler Avtar Singh alias Tari from the border district of Punjab's Gurdaspur, said officials.
Tari has been detained under the PIT-NDPS Act for two years and sent to Central Jail Bathinda, said officials.
"A significant milestone has been achieved by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (#ANTF) & Gurdaspur Police with the preventive detention under PITS-NDPS Act of top smuggler Avtar Singh @ Tari from the border district of #Gurdaspur. This marks #Punjab's first successful use of the stringent provisions of the PITS-NDPS Act, which allows for preventive detention in narcotics-related cases. Tari has been detained under PIT-NDPS Act for 2 years and sent to Central Jail Bathinda, showcasing a strong step in Punjab's ongoing efforts to curb drug smuggling and make the state drug-free," DGP Punjab police posted on X.
More updates on the matter are awaited. Further investigation is in progress.
On October 24, Fazilka police, swiftly working on backward and forward linkages, have exposed a network involved in possessing and selling illegal weapons, arresting the main accused, Manpreet Singh. The police have arrested total four accused and recovered three country-made pistols, three magazines, and ten live rounds.
The accused were bringing illegal weapons from Madhya Pradesh and selling them further. Manpreet Singh had also sold illegal weapons to Jaspreet Singh, a resident of Bathinda, who has also been arrested. The Police said that strict action would be taken against all individuals involved in the organized crime and illegal arms network.
On Octobe 23, in a major breakthrough against organized crime, Kapurthala Police thwarted a pre-planned attempt by anti-national elements to flee Jashnpreet Singh aka Jashn, an undertrial prisoner in a UAPA case, during his medical check-up at Kapurthala Civil Hospital. The swift response of the PCR team, followed by a hot pursuit, led to the arrest of two criminals involved in the escape attempt. The Police said their teams are working to uncover the entire network, following both forward and backward linkages. (ANI)
