AMU row: Police registers case against several for raising Anti-India slogans

Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Oct 12 (ANI): Aligarh police on Friday informed that a First Information Issue (FIR) has been filed against several people for raising anti-India slogans at Aligarh Muslim University. University administration has also served notice to nine students for unlawful assembly.

Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Oct 12 (ANI): Aligarh police on Friday informed that a First Information Issue (FIR) has been filed against several people for raising anti-India slogans at Aligarh Muslim University. University administration has also served notice to nine students for unlawful assembly.
Informing about the case filed, Ajay Kumar Sahani, SSP, Aligarh said, "A terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. There have been reports of an unlawful assembly in AMU to mourn the killing of the terrorist. Some videos have also come into our notice where people can be seen raising anti-national slogans. Initiating action on the same, FIR has been registered against two individuals and few unnamed persons for raising slogans of Azadi. The two boys named in the FIR are from J and K. We are also examining videos in which some other people are also there. A probe is on to identify and find other people involved."
The case has been registered under Indian Penal Code sections 147, 148, 124 A, 153A, 153B, 504 and 506.
The University administration however has denied that no funeral prayers took place in its campus while asserting that some students did assemble unlawfully and were dispersed.
AMU PRO Omar Peerzada said, "News of funeral prayers being held for terrorist Manan Wani in AMU is completely false. It did not happen, neither will it ever happen nor will we let it happen. There was an unlawful assembly of few students but that also was stopped by other students."
Another Member-in-charge of PRO department confirmed that show-cause notice has been issued against 9 people.
He said, "Namaz-e-Janaza did not happen here. Boys who unlawfully assembled here were asked to disperse. We have issued a show-cause notice to nine students. An Inquiry committee has also been set up to look into this matter. We have also initiated Disciplinary action".
An encounter broke out on Thursday morning between security forces and terrorists in Shartgund Bala area of Qalamabad. Hizbul Mujahideen's top commander Manan Waniand another Hizbul operative Ashiq Hussain Zargar were killed by security forces in this encounter. (ANI)
