Amritsar train mishap: Security personnel injured in face-off with protesters

Amritsar (Punjab) [India], Oct 21 (ANI): One security personnel was injured after locals pelted stones on police when being asked to clear railway tracks where they were protesting against Amritsar train accident that claimed 59 lives.

Amritsar (Punjab) [India], Oct 21 (ANI): One security personnel was injured after locals pelted stones on police when being asked to clear railway tracks where they were protesting against Amritsar train accident that claimed 59 lives.
"They're (protesters) pelting stones. He received injuries in his eyes," Head Constable Amritpal Singh told ANI.
The situation remained tense at Joda Phatak today as an enraged crowd pelted stones at the cops. The police, in turn, resorted to a mild baton charge.
"Police is resorting to baton charge and doing everything to trouble people here. Even if we try to go near the railway track, they're pushing us away," a local told ANI.
Another local claimed that the doctors are not providing free treatment to the people who were injured during the accident. "Doctors are not providing free treatment to the injured people. They are asking for money. They're doing injustice. They should give treatment to the ones whose lives can be saved," he said.
As many as 59 people lost their lives and 57 others were injured after a local passenger train ran over a crowd watching Dussehra celebrations near Joda Phatak area in Choura Bazar on Friday evening.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 2 lakh for the families of those killed in the train tragedy, along with Rs 50,000 for the injured.
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh also announced a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased. He has also ordered a judicial inquiry into the matter. (ANI)
