Amritsar train mishap: Municipal Corporation to provide jobs to deceased's kin

Amritsar (Punjab) [India], Oct 25 (ANI): Amritsar Mayor Kamaljeet Singh on Thursday said that on instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the corporation has decided to give jobs to family members of those who were killed in the Amritsar train accident.

Amritsar (Punjab) [India], Oct 25 (ANI): Amritsar Mayor Kamaljeet Singh on Thursday said that on instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the corporation has decided to give jobs to family members of those who were killed in the Amritsar train accident.
"Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had asked us to provide jobs to the family members of those who were killed in Amritsar Train Accident. Municipal Corporation has decided to give jobs to them. A resolution will be passed on October 27 in this regard," he told ANI.
Meanwhile, B Purushartha, Divisional Commissioner (Jalandhar) said that 51 eyewitnesses have recorded their statements on camera as part of the investigation.
"Inquiry is being conducted under the order of Punjab Govt. It'll be a fair and transparent inquiry. Today we kept this day for the public inquiry. We had 51 eyewitnesses who came and shared information with us. They were duly examined and their statements were recorded on camera. We have also kept another day on 29th for the public hearing," he said.
He also said that organisers of the Dussehra event have also been summoned as part of the investigation.
"We have sent summons to organisers to appear before us as well as to the railway officers. Today we also examined District Collector of Amritsar and Deputy Superintendent of Police, Amritsar. In coming days as the inquiry progresses we will examine more officers," he said.
Purushartha also asserted that as per initial timeframe he will complete the inquiry within one month and will submit a report to the Punjab government.
Dussehra celebrations turned fatal in Choura Bazar near Jhoda Phatak area of Amritsar on October 19 as a train ran over the crowd standing along train tracks to watch an effigy of Ravana being burnt. At least 60 people died while 57 sustained injuries. (ANI)
