Amritsar: BSF, Punjab Police arrest person suspected of narcotics smuggling

Punjab Border Security Force (BSF) and the state police arrested one person for allegedly trying to smuggle narcotics near the border area of Amritsar, a statement by BSF said on Monday.

Amritsar (Punjab) [India], October 21 (ANI): Punjab Border Security Force (BSF) and the state police arrested one person for allegedly trying to smuggle narcotics near the border area of Amritsar, a statement by BSF said on Monday.
The BSF seized 530 grams of suspected heroin and one broken mobile phone worth Rs 750 from the accused.
"Acting on the information developed and shared by BSF intelligence wing about a smuggling activity at the border area of district Amritsar, BSF placed a joint ambush in collaboration with Punjab Police in the suspected area," read a statement by BSF.
The alleged smuggler was subsequently interrogated by the local police to find out whether there were any links with Pakistan-based narco-smugglers.
"The smuggler, presently, is in the custody of local Police and a detailed questioning is being carried out to find his linkages with Pak-based narco-smugglers," the statement added.
"This significant apprehension of narco-smugglers with the recovery of heroin consignment demonstrates the professional competence and unflinching dedication of the BSF troops and Punjab Police who are committed to securing the nation's border and combating the cross border smuggling activities," the statement added.
The accused, a resident of Kaholi village in the Amritsar district was chased and caught by the ambush party around 2:10 PM on Monday.
Earlier on October 17, BSF and Punjab police also recovered one packet of suspected heroin in a joint operation in Gurdaspur district
BSF Punjab Frontier said in a statement on X, "Acting on the disclosure made by two apprehended narco-smugglers, a joint operation was launched by BSF troops along with @PunjabPolice near Kassowal Bulge area adjacent to Ravi River in Gurdaspur district. The joint operation led to recovery of 1 packet of suspected heroin along with 01 Oppo smartphone and 01 Hero Splendor motorcycle."
"Both the smugglers along with Heroin were handed over to Gurdaspur police for further investigation," it added. (ANI)
