New Delhi (India), Feb 3 (ANI): BJP national president Amit Shah on Sunday reiterated his party's commitment to building the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and asked Opposition parties to clarify their stand on the Ram Janambhoomi issue and not create hurdles for the BJP government.
“The case is pending in court. The BJP-led government had decided to return the land belonging to Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas which was acquired in 1993. It is a historic step and I request the opposition to not to be an obstacle in the running of the case and allow it to run smoothly” Shah said.
The BJP leader said this after kicking off the party's campaign for the 2019 polls with the ‘Bharat Ke Mann ki Baat’,  a month-long campaign that is seeking suggestions and views from the public to help BJP  draft its 'sankalp patra' (manifesto).
In a significant move ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, the government on Tuesday approached the Supreme Court for permission to restore the "excess" land surrounding the disputed portion in Ayodhya to Ram Janambhoomi Nyas.
The government, in a petition, sought direction for releasing to the Nyas 67 acres, which it had acquired about two-and-a-half decades back, leaving untouched 0.313 acres of disputed.
At Sunday's event, Shah also hit out at previous regimes.
“Before 2014, for over 30 years there were coalition governments. During this time, about 10 crore families use to think if governments can deliver? Amid such doubts, 2014 polls were held and people voted for BJP and government led by Narendra Modi was formed with the majority,” said Shah.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh who was present at the event, said: “Our government wants inclusive growth and development. In order to give 10 per cent reservation to a section of society that has never previously got reservation benefits, the government made amendments to the Constitution. We will not let any section be ignored.” (ANI)
