Noida (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 20 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Police on Saturday said that all preparations for the Shravan Shivratri festival have been successfully completed. They expressed confidence that the festival will be conducted smoothly.
"In the context of the upcoming Sawan Shivratri festival, a final phase meeting was held today. All preparations have been completed successfully, and we are confident that the festival of Shravan Shivratri will be conducted smoothly. Shravan Shivratri is a holy Hindu festival, solely dedicated to Lord Shiva. During this auspicious month of Saawan, Lord Shiva is worshipped all over the country.
It is believed that Lord Shiva got married to Parvati on this day. During the month of Shravan, devotees of Lord Shiva, keep a fast every Monday to seek his blessings. While married women wish for a happy marital life, unmarried women pray for a suitable life partner just like Lord Shiva.
The month of Shravan is famous for Kanwar Yatra, devotees bring Ganga Jal and offer it to Lord Shiva on the day of Shivratri. Shravan Shivratri falls in the month of July or August every year.
Shravan Shivratri is celebrated with much fervour and enthusiasm in the North Indian states like Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar. Temples across North India perform puja and shiva darshan during Sawan month.
Earlier in the day, 'Kanwariyas' began the 'Kanwar Yatra' from Uttarakhand's Haridwar and Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar on foot to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva, as the auspicious month of 'Shravan' will begin on July 22.
The Uttarakhand police administration has made tight security arrangements ahead of the holy month of Shravan.
At the same time, in view of the 'Kanwar Yatra', the administration has also made tight arrangements for the security of the Kanwariyas.
After the Uttar Pradesh government mandated all eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display their owners' names, triggering political outrage, the Haridwar Police Administration on Friday issued an order to restaurant owners to display names on the Kanwar Yatra route.
The Kanwar Yatra is a significant ritual during this period. People gather water from sacred rivers for this rite and place it in little mud pots known as kanwars. Devotees don saffron-coloured clothes while carrying the holy water and walk on foot to visit temples dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Devotees who are termed Kanwariyas visit places like Haridwar, Gaumukh and Gangotri in Uttarakhand, and Sultanganj in Bihar to fetch the holy water of River Ganga and then worship God with that water.
In the Hindu calendar, 'Shravan also known as 'Shravan' is the fifth month of the Hindu lunar calendar, is one of the holiest months of the year.
Every Monday during this period is regarded as a highly auspicious time to fast and seek the blessings of Lord Shiva.
The month of 'Shravan' will begin from July 22. (ANI)
