Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], September 4 (ANI): Alok Pandey, Gujarat State Relief Commissioner, on Wednesday, said that all districts of the state have received extremely heavy rainfall between August 25 and 30. He added that rescue and relief operations have been conducted on a large scale during these 5 days with thousands of people are being taken to safer places.
"All districts received extremely heavy rainfall between August 25 and 30. Currently, all areas have received more than 100% rainfall. On the instructions of the Chief Minister, several video conferences were held with district-level and departmental secretaries and important instructions were given to minimise loss of life and property," K Pandey told ANI.
He said that the assistance of Rs 4 lakh each was given to the families of those who died in the rain-related incidents.
"We gave Rs 4 lakh assistance from the state government and SDRF grant to the families of the deceased. The household expenses were also surveyed and we immediately formed different teams in all the districts who conducted the survey and after conducting the survey, they were also given the money immediately," Pandey said.
"Rescue and relief work was done on a large scale during these 5 days and thousands of people were taken to safer places. The help of NDRF, SDRF and Army was taken and they were deployed in all the districts, who helped a lot in rescue and relief. Helicopters were also used for rescue and shifting through Coast Guard and Air Force," he added.
Heavy rain has been disrupting normal lives in the state for the past couple of days. Rail and bus services were affected and waterlogging rendered several parts inaccessible.
Several parts of Gandhinagar witnessed severe waterlogging, disrupting traffic in the region on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel has directed District Collectors to accelerate the recovery efforts in areas affected by heavy rains and expedite the distribution of cash assistance and household aid to needy families. Responding to the Chief Minister's directions, district administrations are processing payments of cash assistance and household support to affected families in both rural and urban areas.
This is being done through comprehensive surveys of the impacted regions. The State Government is helping people and families whose livelihoods have been disrupted and whose household goods have been damaged or destroyed due to the heavy rains. (ANI)
