New Delhi [India], January 5 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh stated that the credit for the development of the extended connectivity of the Delhi Metro cannot be attributed solely to the central government, as the Delhi government holds a 50 per cent stake in the project.
Speaking about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's inauguration of various development projects in Delhi, particularly the 13-km Sahibabad-New Ashok Nagar Namo Bharat Corridor, worth approximately Rs 4,600 crore, the AAP Rajya Sabha MP said, "The Delhi government has a 50 per cent stake in the Delhi Metro projects, so all credit cannot go to the Centre alone."
He highlighted the important contributions of the Delhi government in expanding the metro rail network, noting that the city's metro network had grown by 250 km over the past 10 years.
Singh also questioned the timing of the inauguration, suggesting that the announcements came just before the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
"In the last 10 years, we have increased the metro rail network by 250 km. Inaugurating projects right before the MCC is implemented will not help them," Singh stated.
Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi also hailed the joint efforts of the Delhi government and the Central government in advancing the transport sector of the national capital.
"I would like to congratulate all the people of Delhi. The Delhi government and the central government are jointly taking the transport sector in Delhi forward," CM Atishi said, adding that with today's inauguration of the metro line, Delhi is starting to become a model in the transport sector in the country and the world.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth over Rs 12,200 crore in Delhi.
Marking a significant milestone in enhancing regional connectivity, the Prime Minister inaugurated the 13 km stretch of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor between Sahibabad and New Ashok Nagar, worth around Rs 4,600 crore.
With this inauguration, Delhi will get its first Namo Bharat connectivity, which would significantly ease travel between Delhi and Meerut and will benefit millions of people through high-speed and comfortable travel along with unmatched safety and reliability.
The Prime Minister had also inaugurated a 2.8 km stretch between Janakpuri and Krishna Park of Delhi Metro Phase IV worth around Rs 1,200 crore. This will be the first stretch of Delhi Metro Phase IV to be inaugurated. The areas of West Delhi, such as Krishna Park, parts of Vikaspuri, and Janakpuri, among others, will benefit, as stated in a press release. (ANI)
