Guwahati (Assam) [India], June 7 (ANI): All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) will extend their support to those who have moved to the Supreme Court to challenge the Gauhati High Court order, which upheld the Assam Repealing Act of 2020 that turned existing provincialized Madrassas in the state into regular government schools.

Rafiqul Islam, AIUDF MLA told ANI that his party will extend their support to those who moved to the Supreme Court to challenge the Gauhati High Court order.

"When the state government had passed the bill in 2020, we had opposed it in the Assam assembly. The government-run Madrasa education was continued in Assam before independence. But, the Assam government has closed down all government-run Madrasas in the state. We had opposed it and we will continue to oppose it. The government-run Madrasas are going in many states of the country. We will extend our support to those who have moved to the Supreme Court," Rafiqul Islam said.

A plea has been filed before the Supreme Court by Md Imad Uddin Barbhuiya and 12 others who are residents of Assam.

On February 4 this year, a division bench of the Gauhati High Court dismissed the writ petition filed by 13 petitioners to challenge the Act and upheld the Act of 2020 passed by the Assam Legislative Assembly to repeal the Madrassa Education Procincialisation Acts.

The Assam assembly in December 2020 passed the Assam Repealing Bill, 2020 seeks to abolish the Assam Madrassa Education (Provincialization) Act, 1995 and the Assam Madrassa Education (Provincialization of Services of Employees and Re-Organisation of Madrassa Educational Institutions) Act, 2018 and later it became an Act.
