AIIMS Delhi celebrates "A Wish Day" on occasion of World Social Work Day

In a heartwarming celebration of compassion and solidarity, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) marked World Social Work Day 2024 with a magical event called "A Wish Day" that brought smiles to the faces of children battling with critical life-threatening medical conditions, said a press statement from AIIMS Delhi.

New Delhi [India], March 19 (ANI): In a heartwarming celebration of compassion and solidarity, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) marked World Social Work Day 2024 with a magical event called "A Wish Day" that brought smiles to the faces of children battling with critical life-threatening medical conditions, said a press statement from AIIMS Delhi.
Organised by the Medical Social Welfare Unit-AIIMS in collaboration with Make a Wish Foundation, India, the event aimed to uplift spirits and spread joy in the midst of challenging circumstances.
The event was attended by medical and social welfare officers, doctors, nurses, hospital administrators and many more from different walks of life.
The programme started with a magic show where hope and healing intertwine, magic filled the air as magician entertained young patients and their families with mesmerizing performances, momentarily transported from the confines of their hospital rooms to a world of wonder and delight.
The magic didn't stop there, as part of the celebration, 57 children getting treatment in various department in AIIMS wishes were fulfilled. The wishes included items like laptops, mobile phones, tablets, smart watches, battery-operated car, bicycles, doll houses, cricket kits etc.
The event commenced with a welcome note by B. R Shekhar, Chief Medical Social Welfare Officer, AIIMS. He stated about the years of dedication of Medical Social Welfare Officers in the institution who have worked endlessly for the patient welfare.
He also paid tribute to the dedicated social workers and healthcare professionals who work tirelessly behind the scenes to provide holistic support to patients and their families.
He further highlighted how the unwavering dedication and tireless efforts, embody the values of empathy and solidarity that lie at the heart of social work.
The programme was graced by the presence of Dr Nirupam Madaan, Medical Superintendent, AIIMS who praised the initiative and congratulated the Medical Social Welfare Officers for their work.
She appreciated this occasion where the children wishes were granted and expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and the opportunity to brighten the lives of young patients, stating, "World Social Work Day" is a time to reaffirm our commitment to caring for those in need and spreading love and joy wherever we can.
Other dignitaries were Karan Singh, Additional Director - AIIMS congratulated the entire MSWO team and appreciated their dedication towards the patient welfare.
Speaking on the occasion, Make a Wish Foundation, India trustee Sidhant Mohta, expressed his gratitude towards the institution and the children who became part of the wish-granting event. He thanked the AIIMS and the MSW unit for taking this initiative to new heights. He stated that children suffering from life-threatening illnesses face severe distress.
Fulfilling their wishes was an act that brought happiness to their faces. (ANI)
