Ahead of LS polls, inter-state police officials discuss security issues

New Delhi (India), Mar 13 (ANI): Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, an inter-state border coordination meeting of police officials of South-East district of Delhi, Gautam Budha Nagar of Uttar Pradesh, and Faridabad, Haryana, was held here on Wednesday to discuss security strategies to ensure free and fair polling.

New Delhi (India), Mar 13 (ANI): Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, an inter-state border coordination meeting of police officials of South-East district of Delhi, Gautam Budha Nagar of Uttar Pradesh, and Faridabad, Haryana, was held here on Wednesday to discuss security strategies to ensure free and fair polling.
They discussed steps among other things to be taken to deal with the flow of illegal money, liquor, firearms, security arrangements, and intelligence sharing.
South-East district of Delhi shares its boundaries with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
The election in Gautam Budha Nagar will be held on April 11, on May 12 in Delhi and Faridabad.
Devesh C Srivastava, Joint Commissioner of Police, Southern Range, said: “The South-East District always had good support and co-operation with adjoining districts of Gautam Budha Nagar and Faridabad.”
“The inter-state co-ordination meetings of intelligence sharing and joint operations have taken place before but such meetings are necessary before the elections to discuss the emerging challenges and their solution,” he said.
The meeting decided for conducting integrated checking, particularly on border pickets, sharing, and collection of intelligence about active criminals and criminals carrying fire-arms, and deployment of maximum staff with weapons.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday announced the dates for the 17th Lok Sabha election. Elections will be held in seven phases from April 11 to May 19. The votes will be counted on May 23. (ANI)
