Ahead of Assembly elections, Delhi Police launches "Operation Prahaar" to tackle crime

In a significant crackdown on organised crime, the Delhi Police's Outer District has launched "Operation Prahaar," an intensive week-long campaign from January 6 to January 12, 2025.

New Delhi [India], January 13 (ANI): In a significant crackdown on organised crime, the Delhi Police's Outer District has launched "Operation Prahaar," an intensive week-long campaign from January 6 to January 12, 2025.
Spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sachin Sharma, the operation aimed to dismantle networks of illicit liquor suppliers, narcotics traffickers, illegal arms dealers, and gambling syndicates.
DCP Sharma said that arms and ammunition were seized during this time. A focused drive against illegal firearms resulted in the registration of 8 cases under the Arms Act and the arrest of 10 individuals.
Police seized four country-made pistols (CMPs), one pistol, five live cartridges, one empty cartridge, and three button-actuated knives. Additionally, stolen vehicles, including one motorcycle, one scooty, and a stolen mobile phone, were recovered during the operation.
Coordinated raids across vulnerable areas disrupted illegal gambling activities. A total of 10 cases were registered under the Delhi Public Gambling Act, leading to the arrest of 40 individuals. The police seized Rs1,11,280 in cash, along with gambling materials such as satta slips, notepads, and playing cards, said the Delhi police.
In a bid to dismantle the illegal liquor trade, police registered 41 cases under the Delhi Excise Act, arresting 39 bootleggers and suppliers. The operation resulted in the seizure of 11,963 quarters of illicit liquor, 17 bottles of beer, 2 cars, 1 vehicle, and 1 motorcycle.
Additionally, as part of the "Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan," the operation targeted drug traffickers also by registering 7 cases under the NDPS Act. Six individuals were arrested, and authorities confiscated 4.235 kg of ganja and 22 grams of smack.
Police said that leveraging human and technical intelligence, the police apprehended one proclaimed offender during the drive, reinforcing their commitment to justice.
In addition to the targeted raids, preventive measures were implemented across the Outer District. 227 individuals were booked for drinking in public under Section 40A of the Delhi Excise Act, 136 individuals were booked under Sections 107/151 CrPC and related laws and 72 individuals were booked under the Delhi Police Act for various violations.
