AgustaWestland case: Court seeks Tihar jail's response on plea to interrogate Christian Michel 

New Delhi [India], Mar 11 (ANI): A Delhi court on Monday issued a notice to Tihar Jail Authorities seeking its response on a plea filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to interrogate Christian Michel, the 'middleman' in the AgustaWestland case. 
The matter is slated for hearing before Special CBI Judge Arvind Kumar tomorrow. He has also issued a production warrant against Michel for the hearing.
ED had requested the court to let them confront him with fresh documents to further record his statement.
Michel, who is currently lodged in Tihar Jail, had submitted a letter to the Special CBI Judge contending that he has been kept in an isolation ward, along with a Kashmiri terrorist and 160 other inmates.
In his letter, Michel also stated that such an act by the jail authorities without the due process of law is “illegal, arbitrary and highly condemnable.”
Replying to his claims, Kumar sought a reply from the Director General (DG) of Prison seeking directions to shift the accused from high-security cell to a normal cell.    
In February, Michel had moved an application before the court seeking judicial inquiry over being shifted to a solitary cell in Tihar Jail and an apparent violation of human rights.
The Jail Superintendent, however, contended that Michel was moved temporarily to a special cell meant for high-risk prisoners following the Pulwama terror attack.
On March 2, Michel had moved an application claiming that he was not given privacy to use the toilet. He had claimed that he was made to use open toilets and two guards accompanied him at all times. (ANI)
