New Delhi [India], August 5 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party's Sanjay Singh on Monday reacted to the Supreme Court's decision to uphold Delhi's Lieutenant Governor to nominate 10 'aldermen' to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices Narsimha and JB Paridwala said on Monday that the LG is expected to act as per the statutory mandate and not as per the aid and advice of the Delhi government.
Speaking to ANI, Sanjay Singh said "I think this decision is a big blow to the country's democracy and that by bypassing the elected government, all the powers will be given to the LG. I think this is not good for the democracy and the Constitution of India. I want to say with due respect that we completely disagree with this decision."
Further, Singh said that the decision is against the spirit of democracy and is opposite to the comments of the court during the hearing.
"This decision is completely against the spirit of the democracy and it is opposite to the comments of the court during the hearing. After reading the full order, we will make a strategy as to what to do next..", Sanjay Singh added.
Meanwhile, Congress Sandeep Dikshit slammed AAP and said that the Supreme Court had looked at the law and that the right to appoint the aldermen is with the LG. He also said that (AAP) always had a fight with the Lieutenant Governor (LG) and they should have read the laws before sending the names of the 10 aldermen.

"The SC looked at the law and it was made clear that the right to appoint the aldermen is with the LG. You have always fought with the LG, you should read the law only after sending the names of the Aldermen. This only shows that either you are illiterate, or you are lying.. It is evident that you are lying and playing games with the legal system," Dikshit said.
He also added that the AAP party has received a slap from the Supreme Court after this judgment.
"The Supreme Court has slapped AAP with this judgement. I wonder if they have lied on this, how many times they would have lied. Every time they lie, they go to court, and their words are proven to be a lie. Sadly, the party has emerged out of a movement, and in my opinion, has been a misfortune for Delhi and the country." If you were not happy with the judgement, why did you go to the court," he added.
Dikshit also said that Sanjay Singh should have used some common sense and read the law first.
He said, "Sanjay Singh should have used some common sense, read the law first, you should have read it earlier, these people have told so many lies that they have forgotten the difference between truth and lies." (ANI)
