After custodial death, Priyanka Gandhi says job of the police is to protect public

New Delhi [India], July 14 (ANI): Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra alleged on Sunday that cases of death in custody have increased in Uttar Pradesh and said that the state government should work towards restoring law and order in the state.
This statement came after a person died in police custody in Jalaun district of Uttar Pradesh.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra conveyed that the family members have alleged that he died due to police beating, upon which she said that the job of the police is to protect the general public, not to become synonymous with cruelty, oppression, and murder.
Taking to a social media post on X, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra wrote, "According to reports, a person died in police custody in the Jalaun district of Uttar Pradesh. The family members allege that he died due to police beating. The job of the police is to protect the general public. It should not become synonymous with cruelty, oppression, and murder. The cases of deaths in custody have increased a lot in Uttar Pradesh. This is very dangerous for the public. The state government should rein in this cruel system and restore law and order."

Earlier, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday condoled the death of 18 people who lost their lives in a road accident in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh.
In a message on the social media platform X, the Congress leader said, "The news of the death of a large number of people in the horrific road accident in Unnao, UP is extremely sad. May God grant peace to the departed souls. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured." (ANI)
