Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], January 16 (ANI): AIMIM leader Waris Pathan on Thursday hit out at the ruling Mahayuti government in Maharashtra following the knife attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, saying that the incident shows the 'complete failure' of the administration.
He also highlighted the recent incidents of firing outside Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's residence and the murder of former minister Baba Siddiqui.
Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Mumbai visit on Thursday, the AIMIM leader said that an attack happening on the night when the PM was in Mumbai shows that "people have lost the fear of the police."
"Such incidents happening in a posh area of Mumbai like Bandra, where many film stars live, show that the administration has completely failed. First, miscreants opened fire on Salman Khan's home, and then Baba Siddique was killed.... Such an attack happening on the night when PM Narendra Modi was in Mumbai, and security was completely tight, shows that people have lost their fear of the police," Waris Pathan said in a self-made video.
He further urged the administration to take strict action against the culprit. "We request the government to take strict action."
Earlier in the day, Dixit Gedam, DCP (Zone 9) of Mumbai Police, who is part of the team investigating the attack on Khan, said that the incident was a "robbery attempt" and the accused used a fire escape staircase to enter the actor's house.
The shocking incident unfolded at Khan's residence in the 'Satguru Sharan' building in Mumbai's Bandra after an intruder allegedly confronted Khan's maid during the early hours of Thursday.
Purportedly, the confrontation turned physical when the actor attempted to intervene and de-escalate the situation. He sustained injuries during the scuffle and was rushed to Lilavati Hospital for treatment. The suspect's face was caught in CCTV footage that surfaced on social media hours after the incident.
Reacting to the incident, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday stated that the law and order of Mumbai cannot be judged based on a few incidents and asserted that the city is the safest place.
"Mumbai is the safest place, and there is no doubt about it. Just based on one or two incidents, it won't be right to say that Mumbai is unsafe. At the same time, it is also correct that if any such kind of incident happens, we should take it seriously and act accordingly and keep Mumbai safe," Fadnavis said. (ANI)
