Imphal (Manipur) [India], November 22 (ANI): Security Advisor to the Manipur Government, Kuldiep Singh, said on Friday that the administration, Army, Assam Rifles and Border Security forces are dealing with the law and order situation in the wake of recent killings in the violence hit north-eastern state.
Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh also said that National Investigation Agency (NIA) is investigating the recent incidents of civilian killings in the violence-hit state.
Addressing a press conference on the matter, Singh said, "Those three cases are being investigated and have been handed over to NIA. NIA is now investigating the cases, and they will come up with further developments."
He further said that the last rites of the nine people killed in the recent Manipur violence were conducted peacefully amid tight security.
"The administration, Army, Assam Rifles, and BSF are taking care of all kinds of problems. Today, the burial of 9 bodies from Jiribam was conducted peacefully with the help of all the forces present there. They are taking all other measures..." Singh added.
Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said on Friday that the government supports the agitation against the killing of innocent people but some "gangs" have looted and burned ministers' houses in the name of democratic movement.
The Chief Minister affirmed that he has already condemned the violence and the government has initiated legal actions against it.
Speaking to reporters, N Biren Singh said, "I already said and condemned. Those who are genuinely agitating against the killings of innocent people are genuine, we support their movement and agitation because everyone has the right to democratically agitate. But in the name of the democratic movement, some gangs have looted, burned ministers' houses and looted their properties. So, we have already initiated appropriate legal action. We have already who's identified through CCTV and I feel shame to express publically that this is happening in Manipur and looting is taking place in the name of agitation. This is a matter of shame. We will take legal action..." (ANI)
