Aurangabad (Bihar) [India], May 31 (ANI): Special arrangements have been made to treat heatstroke patients in the district hospital in Bihar's Aurangabad. District Hospital Civil Surgeon Dr Ravi Bhushan Srivastava said that a total of 103 patients diagnosed as suffering from heatwave have been admitted in the last 24 hours, out of whom five have been declared dead.
"The situation was fine till Thursday. But on Friday, cases came to light. A total of 103 patients came to the hospital and told about their symptoms which occurred due to exposure to the scorching sun. They underwent treatment. Most of the people got better and went back. Some are still undergoing treatment and getting stable. Five people out of them died," told Dr Ravi Bhushan Srivastava while speaking to ANI.

Highlighting all the arrangements that have been made to tackle the heatstroke patients he said that there is a special heat ward made in the hospital and there are beds with oxygen facilities. "Water, ice and medicines have been provided. Air conditioners are functional everywhere. Coolers have been provided wherever necessary. In most of the advanced-stage cases, patients were in an irritable condition or otherwise unconscious. Their blood pressure was also high. Some also had diarrhoea. Their tongue was dry. Most of the affected were elderly," he added.
The city of Aurangabad, just like many other districts in the state has been battling an unprecedented heatwave with record-breaking temperatures.
Several patients were admitted to different hospitals across the district.
As extreme temperatures continue to grapple in parts of northwest and central India, heatwave conditions have been disrupting the day-to-day lives of the people.
As many as 24 people have lost their lives across Bihar, as the state experiences intense heatwave conditions, with temperatures exceeding 44 degrees Celsius.
Four people, including a worker on election duty on Thursday also reportedly died in Kaimur district. Three deaths were also reported in Bihar's Arrah in Bhojpur district after suffering from extreme heatwaves in the region.
Bihar has been reeling under a heatwave and the state government had, on Wednesday, ordered the closure of all private and government-run schools, coaching institutes and Anganwadi centres till June 8.
The decision was taken after dozens of students fainted due to the heat.
Bihar is voting in all seven phases of the Lok Sabha elections, with the final phase scheduled for Saturday, June 1. (ANI)
