Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], October 8 (ANI): Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee on Sunday participated in the MGNREGA protests in Kolkata that are going on for that fourth day.
Banerjee was seen seated at the 'Rajbhavan Chalo' makeshift stage along with other party leaders. This comes amid ongoing raids on two TMC strongmen- Firhad Hakim and Madan Mitra by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) since Sunday morning in the municipal 'jobs scam' case.
Following the third day of the 'Rajbhavan Chalo' sit-in in the city, the TMC General Secretary said in a post on 'X' that the West Bengal Governor has agreed to meet the TMC delegation at the earliest.
"The 3rd Day of our Dharna concluded with 2 moral victories. While the Zamindars were forced to leave their ivory towers in Delhi and come to Kolkata, the Governor finally agreed to meet our delegation at the earliest. I am confident BENGAL WILL WIN this battle for its people!" Banerjee posted on X on Saturday night.
Several TMC leaders have alleged that Sunday's raids are a reaction by the Bharatiya Janata Party against these ongoing protests in Kolkata.
"BJP cannot fight politically, so it has released its two puppets CBI and ED... Because the central government had to bow down in front of our protest, it sent its two toys CBI and ED. This is a game to malign...But we will continue to fight on the real issues...," West Bengal Minister Shashi Panja said on Sunday speaking to ANI. (ANI)

In an 'X' post, TMC said the government has "ek hi naara, line mein rahe desh bechara," pointing to past governmental measures including demonetisation, the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, the Special Identification Registration (SIR), and now the LPG shortage. The party described demonetisation as a "Tughlaqi farman" that forced ordinary citizens to wait in serpentine queues outside banks and ATMs for days to access their own money. The post also highlighted the 2020 COVID-19 oxygen crisis, when families stood in long lines outside hospitals and suppliers as the public health system collapsed.
