Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], February 20 (ANI): After Rekha Gupta took oath as the new Chief Minister of Delhi, Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari said on Thursday that the entire nation will take pride in seeing a woman CM in the national capital.
Speaking to ANI, Adhikari said, "The people of our country do not call India 'father', they call it 'mother'. A trusted, loyal leader who has been ideologically associated with the BJP from day one has been given a huge responsibility in Delhi."
"That a woman has become the Chief Minister of our country's capital is a proud day for all Indians. I salute and express my gratitude to PM Narendra Modi," he added.
Rekha Gupta, a first-time MLA from the Shalimar Bagh constituency, took oath as the ninth chief minister of Delhi this afternoon in a ceremony that was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, top BJP leaders and chief ministers of NDA-ruled states.
The 50-year-old was chosen as the new Delhi Chief Minister at the BJP Legislature Party meeting that was held at its national headquarters on Wednesday.
Today, along with Rekha Gupta, Parvesh Verma, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Kapil Mishra, Ravinder Indraj Singh, and Pankaj Singh, the oath of office was also administered by Lt. Governor VK Saxena.
Notably, after the BJP's historic mandate of winning 48 out of 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly elections, the cleaning process for the Yamuna River was initiated.
On February 16, trash skimmers, weed harvesters, and dredge utility vehicles were deployed in the river. Additionally, evening Aarti commenced at Vasudev Ghat as part of the initiative. (ANI)
