9-day yagya begins in UP to 'curb pollution'

Rapid urbanisation has led to lake pollution, declining water quality, reduced groundwater recharge and worsening air quality in densely populated areas. To address these issues, the 'Lake and Air Watch' initiative will integrate monitoring systems across departments for coordinated and timely action.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Member Secretary of the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to visit a district park in Rohini Sector-20 and verify allegations regarding the illegal installation of swings and alleged violations of rules governing the use of public parks.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Majlis Park-Maujpur Babarpur Corridor, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the government is taking concrete measures with the support of the Centre to address challenges faced by the city, particularly during the monsoon season when several areas experience severe waterlogging.

She questioned the BJP's priorities, pointing out they're focusing on the issue instead of discussing pressing matters like air pollution and road conditions.

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has issued a framework directing NCR States and the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) to roll out targeted Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaigns aimed at tackling region-specific sources of air pollution.
