67% voting recorded in Telangana

New Delhi (India), Dec 7 (ANI): The Election Commission of India (ECI) informed on Friday that about 67 per cent voting was recorded in theTelangana Assembly elections with "brisk" polling in rural areas as compared to Hyderabad which witnessed a little lesser participation, said Election Commission.

New Delhi (India), Dec 7 (ANI): The Election Commission of India (ECI) informed on Friday that about 67 per cent voting was recorded in theTelangana Assembly elections with "brisk" polling in rural areas as compared to Hyderabad which witnessed a little lesser participation, said Election Commission.
However, EC said that final figures are yet to come as people were yet to caste their votes in some of the polling stations. In the last Assembly elections in Telangana, the vote percentage was recorded 69.5 per cent.
The Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana Rajat Kumar said that Hyderabad witnessed lowest voting with 50 per cent voter turnout while Adilabad district was highest with 76.5 per cent vote. On other hand rural Warangal witnessed 76 per cent polling.
Telangana has 2.8 crore electors while 1821 candidates were in the fray for 119 seat Assembly. 32,814 polling stations were set up out of which 119 were manned exclusively by women officials.
"The polling in Telangana largely went on smoothly and peacefully barring few minor incidents. Quite brisk polling was witnessed in rural areas while a little lesser participation in Hyderabad was seen as compared to rural areas," said Umesh Sinha, Deputy Election Commissioner.
While Rajasthan recorded over 72 per cent polling, the figures are likely to go up as polling was still going on at some polling stations.
"About 72.62 per cent polling is reported however polling is still going on and figures are likely to go up. In Lok-Sabha elections 2014, 63.02 per cent polling took place while in Assembly elections 2013 about 75.23 per cent polling took place," said the EC official.
Elaborate security arrangements were made in both Telangana and Rajasthan for the conduct the elections. The counting of votes will take place on December 11.(ANI)
