54th Nagas' meet in Delhi revisits the rich cultural ethos of Naga community

New Delhi [India] Nov. 2 (ANI): Each year, students from the northeast region residing in various parts of the country organize various events and activities to remain connected to their roots. Remembering the ancestral history and strengthening the bonding amidst various tribes of the Nagas, Naga students' Union in Delhi celebrated its 54th annual Nagas' meet with joy and opulence.

Celebrated under the theme 'Connecting Nagas Here & Beyond', the event was organized by the Naga Students' Union, Delhi (NSUD), an apex students' union body composite of 20 Naga tribes of Nagaland and Manipur.

Nagas in Delhi converged in large numbers at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts and commemorated the 54th Nagas' Meet while welcoming the freshers in their midst. The event was not only aimed at bringing the community under one roof, but it was also used as a platform to promote the varied traditions of the Naga community.

The extravagant event was graced by Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Union Minister of Minority Affairs and Tharodal Thongruang, Minister Counsellor of Commercial, Royal Thai Embassy, New Delhi as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Naqvi said, "First of all, I want to salute the spirit of the Nagas and they are committed for the development, security and safety of the country. They are always in the forefront for the nation's values, importance and national development. And the present government is committed towards the socio-economic upliftment and education for the northeast and Nagas as well."

Tharodal Thongruang said, "Having this kind of student union is a good thing for the people coming from far places to help each other and guide the freshers who are new in the city. During my college days Bangkok, I did experienced the same kind of encourage and welcoming from the community since I also came from very remote place. Today, the event really gives me nostalgic moment."

Herangia Pame, President, NSUD, said, "This 54th Nagas' Meet aimed to bring the whole Nagas and celebrate as one family. And also it is about welcoming the freshers and strengthening the bond of the Nagas here in Delhi."
