New Delhi [India] Jan 6 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be cooking 5,000 kg of khichdi at its Dalit rally in Delhi on Sunday.

Aiming to create a world record, the dish will be cooked with rice and lentils collected from Dalit households at Ramlila Maidan. It will be distributed among the party workers and supporters at 'Bhim Mahasangam Vijay Sankalp' rally under the leadership of BJP president Amit Shah. Shah will also address the rally recounting the work done by the party for the Dalit community in Delhi.

Nagpur-based chef Vishnu Manohra, who has been assigned the work to cook khichdi, told ANI, "5,000 kg of 'Samrasta Khichdi' will be cooked today to set a new record. Earlier, I entered the Guinness Book of World Records for a 3,000-kg khichdi event held last year in Nagpur."

Elaborating about the ingredients that were being used to prepare khichdi, Manohra said, "400 kg pulses, 600 kg rice, 200 kg carrot and green pea and 70 kg spices will be used to prepare khichdi. It will be cooked in a specially designed utensil."

In November 2017, renowned chef Sanjeev Kapoor cooked 918 kg of khichdi, which currently holds the record for the world's largest khichdi, at 'World Food India' festival organised by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries in Delhi.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Jai Prakash said that Sunday's event is being organised to give a message of peace, brotherhood and togetherness.

"Opposition parties 'Mahagathbandhan' khichdi is a khichdi of corruption. We're making 'Samrasta Khichdi' to give a message of peace, brotherhood and togetherness. Our party workers went to several household to collect 100-gram rice for this event. Dalits are not unhappy with our party as we have been continuously working for them," he added.

Some of the other dignitaries who will participate in the programme include BJP leader Vijay Goel, party's national general secretary Arun Singh, Union Minister for social justice and empowerment Thawar Chand Gehlot and party's Delhi chief Manoj Tiwari. (ANI)
