3 Sri Lankan refugees arrested in Rameswaram

Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu) [India], July 14 (ANI): The Tamil Nadu police arrested three Sri Lankan refugees in Rameswaram , while they were making an attempt to return to Sri Lanka illegally.

Coastal Police, One of the arrested refugees

Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu) [India], July 14 (ANI): The Tamil Nadu police arrested three Sri Lankan refugees in Rameswaram , while they were making an attempt to return to Sri Lanka illegally.
The refugees, who were staying in India, were arrested by the Coastal Police late night on Friday.
More details are awaited.
There are around two lakhs Sri Lankan refugees in India following the outbreak of violence in the country. Recently, the Indian government has been encouraging them to return.
According to various reports, around 3,000 refugees have returned since 2015. (ANI)
