Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Mar 6 (ANI): The city police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested three Romanian nationals, accused of skimming automated teller machines (ATMs), and causing a fraud over Rs 2 crore.
Police have recovered Rs 1.28 lakh cash, five passports, two laptops, three ATM skimmers, 182 clone cards, and 100 blank cards from their possession. Their identity has not been disclosed in view of the ongoing investigation in the case.
Talking to media persons, Suresh Chandra Rawat, Superintendent of Police, East Lucknow, said: “We have recovered five passports, two laptops, three ATM skimmers, 182 cloned cards, 100 blank cards, and more than Rs 1 lakh cash.”
Rawat said: “All the three accused are the citizens of Romania, who were running a gang in the city. They use cloned cards and put cloning devices in ATM machine. Their modus operandi was to target ATM machines, which were without security guards and cameras.”
Rawat said: “They had been living in Lucknow for the past one year. They have committed a fraud of around Rs 2 crore. They did not get any support from any local.”
“Two more accused are absconding and we are investigating more people involved in the act. During the investigation, we have found that they came here on a tourist visa,” said Rawat. (ANI)
