Chiplun (Maharashtra) [India] October 15 (ANI): A case of food poisoning was reported on Sunday in Indian Railways' premium train Tejas Express between Goa and Mumbai, which affected at least 24 passengers.

A case of food poisoning reported in train no 22120 Tejas Express on date upon information from passengers. The train was stopped out of course at Chiplun railway station and treatment was given to passengers by railway doctor," the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) said in an official statement.

IRCTC added that 24 passengers were admitted at Lifecare Hospital in Chiplun, Maharashtra where they were undergoing medical treatment.

The IRCTC also said that a probe has been launched to ascertain the source of food poisoning.

"Food sample have been taken for investigation. Total no 300 breakfast (170 veg 130 non veg) has been served," the IRCTC said.

"Director, Catering services is proceeding to Mumbai to follow up the matter. Follow up action and monitoring is being done to ensure proper assistance," the statement added.

The Railway staffs have accompanied passengers to the hospital.

Tejas Express is the country's first semi-high speed fully AC train service launched between Karmali railway station in Goa and Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Terminal in June this year. (ANI)
