Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], Nov 25 (ANI): Students of two groups in Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) clashed on Saturday over an issue of eve-teasing on November 23. Following this, the affected hostels have been vacated a precautionary measure.
"University has not been closed Sine Die and classes are functioning normally. A few students received minor injuries. They have been discharged after first-aid. Rumours of fatality are false. KIIT has a policy of zero tolerance towards such unruly actions and necessary steps have been taken from authorities' side," read an official statement issued on Sunday.
On Saturday, five students were detained in connection with the riots between two groups at the KIIT University campus.
Tensions began when a group of 2nd Year B.Tech students passed lewd comments at a 5th-year law student of the University. Although the matter was initially resolved, students from both groups got into a scuffle last evening which continued till late night.
During the clashes, students were seen using stones, sticks, and rods, due to which around 40 students sustained injuries, including nine who were seriously injured.
Police have registered two cases in this connection and an investigation in the matter is underway. (ANI)
