140 PAC companies deployed to thwart violence during Bharat Bandh in UP: ADG Prashant Kumar

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], December 8 (ANI): Prashant Kumar, Additional Director General (ADG) of Law and Order in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday said that 140 companies of Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC) have been deployed along with civil forces in the state to thwart any instances of violence during the Bharat Bandh called by the protesting farmers on Tuesday against the Centre's agricultural sector laws.
"Administration is on alert and all situations being monitored through patrolling to thwart instances of violence. Farmers said that Bandh will only be from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm. 140 companies of Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC) have been deployed along with civil forces," said Kumar.
Meanwhile, police in Gautam Buddh Nagar which is a part of the national capital region is ensuring that no one imposes Bandh forcibly on anyone and the public don't face inconvenience, and there's no traffic disruption.
"We're ensuring that the public do not face inconvenience and there's no traffic disruption. Adequate security deployed at all important entry and exit points to and from the district. We also deployed PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary) force," said Love Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police, Gautam Buddh Nagar.
He also informed that police is instructed to strictly deal with anyone who takes law in their own hands.
"Officers are making the rounds in their respective areas and ensuring that no one imposes Bandh forcibly. Everyone has been instructed to ensure the security of railway stations, bus stands, metro stations and autos. We'll strictly deal with anyone who takes law in their hands," said Love Kumar.
Yesterday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the administration and police officers to make adequate arrangements and ensure that the common people do not face any inconvenience during the "Bharat Bandh" call for Tuesday given by farmers agitating against the new agricultural sector laws.
Farmers, who have been protesting on different borders of the national capital since November 26 against the three newly enacted laws by Centre, called for a Bharat Bandh on today.
The three farm laws--Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
Leaders of farmer groups have held several rounds of talks with the government but all of them remained inconclusive so far. After the fifth round of talks, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has called another meeting on December 9. (ANI)
