Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], September 2 (ANI): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Monday announced that one thousand schools in Bengaluru will take a pledge to "clean Bengaluru" on October 2, marking the 100th year since Mahatma Gandhi's Congress presidentship.
This initiative is taken by the government to spread awareness among the kids about the necessity of cleanliness.
"As 100 years are completing of the AICC Presidentship of Mahatma Gandhi, 1 thousand schools and colleges will be given a pledge to "clean Bengaluru" to make kids aware about cleanliness on October 2," D K Shivakumar said in a press conference.
Speaking about the pothole situation in the city, Deputy CM Shivakumar said, "I have given direction to officials, 2795 potholes have been recognised and I have instructed them (officials) to refill all of them. Mainly on major roads, less attention was given, Rs 660 crores will be spent for this. Compared to previous years, we faced less trouble due to rain in Bengaluru this year."
DK Shivakumar further spoke about the Yettinahole project which will be inaugurated on September 6 by CM Siddaramaiah.
"All party leaders will be present in the inauguration of the Yettinahole project. CM will inaugurate it and "Ganga" Pooje will be held. Many criticised that water will not flow, however, we have succeeded in the project." He said
Yettinahole project aims to provide water to districts of central and south Karnataka. These districts are Kolar, Chikkaballapura, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagara, Tumakuru and Hassan
Earlier on Sunday, speaking about the Yettinahole project, DK Shivakumar said,
"Kolar, Chikkaballapura, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagara, Tumakuru and Hassan districts have been eagerly waiting for the completion of the project. Many leaders have fought for this project and all political parties have cooperated for it. I had taken up this project as a challenge in the last year and completed the works on a war footing," he stated.
He further mentioned that there are many disputes surrounding the project about the forest lands through which water will flow into the main canals.
"There were many criticisms about this project. There were some disputes pertaining to forest land but we are sorting them out. Once this land is handed over to us, water will flow into the main canals. Currently, the water is being lifted from 7 barrages and the water is temporarily released to Vani Vilas Sagar dam," he said. (ANI)
